Extract - In the practice of orthopaedic surgery, total assessment of patients with locomotor problems always includes observation of patients' walking ability. In the past, we have relied mainly on our clinical judgement in making diagnostic decisions and treatment plan. The skills of clinical examination and observation are necessary. Each clinician should develop good 'eyes' for observation and an analytical mind in deducing and interpreting abnormal movement.
